Today was another long travel day. However, before we left Pamukkale, we stopped at a small market next to a spa with warm healing waters and photographed a woman who was selling water whistles. The whistles warble like a song bird. Later in the day we passed some gypsies making parasols and other items from long straw they collected and stopped to photograph them.
Our first stop was Prienne, an ancient greek temple of Apollo where oracles would read people's futures. Later the structure was used as a church and was abandoned in the 1500s. I found it remarkable as to how well preserved it is despite earthquakes and the ages.
We later stopped at an ancient amphitheater where St. Paul spoke and left by the Aegean Sea which 2000 years ago reached all the way to the theater structure. Today, due to the Meander River delta, the land is steadily increasing and the seashore is now quite a distance. Our word "meander" comes from this river and valley.
Again, I was quite amazed at the preservation of this beautiful structure. We were also pleasantly surprised by beautiful music coming from the theater and when we entered a young lady was playing a beautful flute. She wanted to hear the acoustics of the theater and the sound was quite appropriate and beautiful.
We are staying in a beautiful Hotel - the Kismet, overlooking the Aegean sea. Queen Elizabeth once stayed here.
