Days 2 - 4

We haven't had Internet access so trying to catch up. We had a great trip up the river to the Bribri village by dugout canoe. The river is on the border between Panama and Costa Rica. The poor guys who took us up the river had a tough time and at one point, we had to get out of the canoe so they could make it up against the rapids.

The villagers were great and very friendly. We ate there and met Bernarda who started a woman's co-op of artesans to bring more money into the village. The specialty of the Bribri is chocolate. The grow it, and use it for medicinal purposes as well as food and drink. They allowed us to help with the preperation by grinding the beans with a stone, then grind it into paste. Put the paste on a banana - delicious!

They built two schools there and the children can simply jump in the river to cool off - what a wonderful way to grow up. The kids followed us around and we gave them a soccer ball and some frisbees.

We were also given a demonstration on hunting with bow and arrows and we all tried our hand. I was the only one to hit the target!
