Day 6 April 5

Postby jamesfc on Sun Apr 05, 2009 2:10 am

We awoke this morning to a beautiful sunrise. I shot some more images of the volcano from our balcony bathed in the clear morning light, then we boarded the bus to take us to our balloon. Unfortunately, it was the wrong bus! No problem, the company figured it out and got us on the right balloon!

The landsape of this amazing place is even more incredible from the air! Imagine dozens of colorful balloons bathed in that beautiful morning light.

The day is still young and we are off to breakfast and will be posting more later!

After breakfast we toured the countryside and Meli stopped to talk to some local farmers planting seeds near the road, so we stopped and they permitted us to take their photograph and they gave us some nice greens which we later had as a delicious salad!

We stopped at a carpet factory and learned that in Turkey, carpets really do fly!

Carolyn bought a couple carpets, one which is amazing and will actually be hung up in our guest room.

Aftewards, we visited one of the earliest known churches in Christianity - carved into the solid rock and then visited Hasan and Fatama, a very nice local couple who farm and still live in one of the rock carved dwellings in Cappadocia.

Tonight we went to see the whirling dirvishes and tomorrow we leave for Guzelyurt. Don't know if we have Internet access there, so will be back with more images when we can!!

Hey Jim & Carolyn -- keep an eye out for our president while you're there. He's on a Turkey Trip

Hi Brenda and I'm happy to report Obama has done us proud. The Turks seem to love him and he said the right things and did the right things - unlike our previous leader. We've been in many small villages and in people's homes and he always came up in coversation in a positive way - even among some German and Danish travelers we met.
